Skaggs Foundation awards $15,000 in spring scholarships

Skaggs Foundation recently made a $15,000 investment in the future of local health care by awarding scholarships to 23 students pursuing or advancing careers in the medical field. The scholarships are for spring 2019 semester.

“Skaggs Foundation has provided a way for me to pay for my books and extra supplies,” explains Hollie Holderfield, RN, who first returned to classes six years ago to obtain her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree.

After receiving her BSN, Holderfield said she decided to continue in her education and is expected to graduate in December of this year as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Holderfield is currently the manager of CoxHealth Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab in Branson and is looking forward to expanding her scope of practice to better serve the community.

This semester, Holderfield is one of six part-time students awarded a scholarship while 17 fulltime students received scholarships.

“At Skaggs Foundation, we often say we are creating healthier tomorrows and our student scholarship program is doing just that,” says Skaggs Foundation President Meghan Connell. “Across the nation and locally, we are facing a growing need for qualified health care professionals. Students like Hollie are helping to fill that need in our community, ensuring excellent health care services will be available for years to come in Stone and Taney counties.”

Since its inception in 2002, Skaggs Foundation has awarded a total of $363,200 to students pursuing careers in health care. Last year alone, 51 student scholarships were awarded.
